ELKHART COUNTY

Elkhart County is part of a region locally known as Michiana and Northern Indiana Amish Country.  While the largest city is Elkhart, the county seat is actually Goshen which is more centrally located within the county.  The area was inhabited by the Potawatomi when early settlers came to northern Indiana via the Erie Canal in New York. Goshen is home to Goshen College and home to many of the recreational vehicle manufacturers in the nation.  The City of Elkhart also has a large number of recreational vehicle manufacturers and has been called the RV capital of the world.
