DEKALB
COUNTY

DeKalb is the home of Auburn, Garrett, and Waterloo.  Auburn, the county seat, was the home to a wide variety of automobile manufacturers, including Auburn, Duesenberg, and Cord.  A festival celebrating automobiles is celebrated in Auburn every Labor Day. The beautiful Sacred Heart Hospital in Garrett has recently been converted into a senior living center.  The city of Garrett is a popular location for railfans to observe passing trains, the city enjoys its moniker, “Big Train Country.” A complete Woolly Mammoth skeleton was discovered in Waterloo, and is now on display in Pittsburgh.  Waterloo is served by Amtrak on trains connecting Chicago to New York and Washington D.C.
