RIPLEY COUNTY

Ripley County is a truly spectacular part of the state, home to Versailles Lake, Versailles State Park, Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, and many other public parks and forested areas.  Across Laughery Creek from Versailles State Park is the county seat, Versailles. The impressive Busching Covered Bridge crosses the Laughery Creek and marks the entrance to the State Park.  Ripley County is also home to Milan High School, who in 1954 won the Indiana State Basketball Championship. This achievement being notable because Milan was one of the smallest towns to win a state championship in the nation at the time.  The 1986 movie “Hoosiers” was based on this event.
