CASS COUNTY

Cass County is the home of Logansport, the county seat.  Logansport was named for Captain Logan who served the U.S. forces during the war of 1812.  Logansport has been a transportation hub ever since its formation at the junction of the Eel and Wabash Rivers, along the Michigan Road, a pathway connecting Madison on the Ohio River to Michigan City on Lake Michigan.  Logansport became a “port” when the Wabash and Erie Canal reached Logansport about a decade after the first settlers founded the settlement. As railroad networks began crossing the state, Logansport became an important junction for many of the railroads and helped Logansport with its growth.
