BICYCLE LANE

A bicycle lane is a portion of a roadway that has been marked specifically for use of bicycles.  This dedicated space lowers the risk of being hit by an automobile. As part of the roadway, users of a bicycle lane must obey the rules of the road and be aware that they are sharing the roadway with vehicles.  The advantage of a bicycle lane is that there will not be any pedestrians to slow down cyclists. A trail with a bicycle lane may only have that feature for a portion of the trail or the full length of the trail.  Frequently, a bicycle lane may have a sidewalk or sidepath for pedestrian, roller skate, skateboard, or inline skating.
