Eagle Creek Trail – Indy
County:
Marion
City:
Indianapolis
Descriptions:
|
The about three mile paved pathway of Eagle Creek Trail shouldn’t be overlooked and belongs in any trail-user’s repertoire, not just because of its current features and location, but also for what it will eventually be when completed. It is a trail that will allow connections to varied Indianapolis venues, including the B & O Trail and Speedway areas and a channel to the Monon, the White River Trail and east side pathways, as well as White River State Park and its attractions.
You don’t have to wait, however. The currently-open stretch of Eagle Creek Trail, though short, is just at the edge of one of the nation’s largest city parks. Eagle Creek’s nearly 1400 acres of reservoir, numerous smaller lakes, in addition to 3900 acres of terra firma, contains so many vistas and potential things to do and see and learn about, it’s a vacation in itself to last at least one summer and on into winter!
Birding, boating (non-motorized), fishing, early Indianapolis history and buildings, numerous picnic shelters, paths, forests, concerts, crew racing, day camp activities, deer, cross country skiing, a 400 year old Douglas fir trunk “imported” from Oregon, bobcat (according to rumor)—and that’s not everything. Time to get out and explore.
